My voltage reads 12.0-12.8 when my truck is turned off if that makes a difference. I think you knocked some wiring loose somewhere.

check the cable to the starter and to the ground on the motor. most groung through the alt bracket bolts so it could just be a bad connection there or at the starter. if there is a click at the starter then i would say the solenoid got wet or is completely gone but if there is no click then it can be getting a complete circuit for power to travel through from + and back to the - on the battery.
also, do the headlights go out when you try to crank it or do they dim a little bit?

All the connections to starter from battery are good. The headlights do not dim because the battery never see any voltage drain. The only connections taken loose were from alt and battery. I have checked every connection to see if something was unplugged and everything is plugged in.

Starter relay? Give the starter a good whack with a big wrench and try again.

No starter relay on this truck and unless the engine is laying in the floor next to the truck, when you jump the solenoid and nothing happens the starter is bad (solenoid open).

Can the starter be removed without taking all the hydraulic clutch stuff loose from the tranny? I bought the truck new and nothing has ever been replaced except for batteries and this is 2nd alt. I had a overheat temp sensor go out 10 yr ago. The truck has had regular maintenance every 3k.

I think so but it's been a long time. PM RedHeartbeat as he had one of those trucks with a manual trans.

Jesus Nathan, I thought I caught you in a boo-boo seeing as how its an automatic now. He had a 5spd in his before. I was so "almost sure" I went searching to find out.

I think it was the other truck that was stolen. It had and LT1 and the stock 5-speed I think.
