Thread: What all can affect timing?

1. #11

I've used electrical cleaner on my MAF and it didn't mess up anything.

everything is fine his MAF readings were great i have a 2.1 processor with 2gigs of memory the laptop is not slow, he needs to just say screw it and go to TRT and let them make his charts all look like mine...

Why go somewhere else?? Either the pcm calibration didn't upload correctly, or something is wrong with the truck.
They aren't going to tune that timing table any better than I do, all tuners can set the timing table at 30degs, so there's no magic to it!
We've tuned more trucks than most, so trust me, I know how to change a timing table.

Let me know what you decide on moze, I can ship out another one if you'd like, maybe that one will work better. If your truck is mechanically sound, it's probably a bad upload.

Like I said, at this point I'm lost. So I guess yeah, send another one and if that turns out the same, then the problem is probably mechanical, although I don't have a clue where or how to figure out what it is.

i wasn't saying anything bad at all about your tuning, to me it is just easier to drive a few miles, his truck is running fine, the thig it's doing is as it pulls more air it's losing timing, it starts at 25 then drops off to 19 shifts goes back up to 25 then makes its way back down, on mine it flatlines all the way across and doesn't budge off of 26, but i made sure it stays there, you are a great tuner and i am not saying anything bad at all

Moze, did it do this before your homemade ram air? As Virgil said, as it is pulling in air---which it is doing more of now--it drops to 19... Could that be due to the fact that you are pulling in more fresh air than before? Did the HPT (or whatever software you guys used) register the fact that you are receiving more air? It should... Maybe try unhooking the ram air setup and drive it around this afternoon to see if it makes a difference?

Me thinking.... More air in=more fuel in=more spark/timing in... It just doesn't make sense... You may have had a computer or HPT program burp... Computers have problems all the time... Like Allen said, this could be a technological error.

same here mean05, I just wouldn't want him to spend more money when it's as easy as swapping the pcm or something simple with the truck, if it's pulling like you said, that's probably the pcm and hopefully this next uploade will fix it for him,

keep me updated and thanks,
allen
