Thread: truck wants to turn off

1. #1
I got a problem with my truck. When i'm at a a light waiting or in a drive thru, my truck seems like it wants to turn off. Sometimes it does. The spark plugs are good. What can the problem be? There are no trouble codes with this problem. The truck is a 2003 silverado 5.3. Also i have these 2 codes; DTC P0102 Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Circuit Low Frequency, and DTC P0113 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage. How can I fix them? thanks

clean your MAF with some electrical contact cleaner and make sure you have a good connection on the plug. the cleaner should be preatty cheap. clear the codes and problem should be fixed.

you didnt descreen the MAF did you?

Both those sensors are in the MAF. With both coding I would suspect the wiring to the MAF or plug. Check the plug and wiring to it. Recently cleaned the engine?

No, the maf is not descreened. Would a maf from a 2001 tahoe or a 2002 silverado fit my truck? And instead of cleaning it can I just trade maf's to see what happens?

Last night I went to check the plug, and it was lose. I just pulled it off the sensor. I put it back the way its supposed to be, and the codes weren't their anymore , but the problem of the truck wanting to turn off is still there Any ideas as to what it could be?

make sure all connections behind the MAF are tight. unmetered air could make it run funny. how is it trying to turn off? like surging, idling low or what? how many miles on the truck? did you try cleaning the MAF?

It feels like when the battery is low and there isn't enough power to keep it on. Its a new battery and alternator, i tried a different battery and it did the same. Its like on big surge once in a while and then little surges. The truck has 14,000 miles. I'll go buy the cleaner later, and try if that works. Do i have to remove the MAF sensor to clean it? I a volant intake and its a B**** to put it back on.
