    454 into a trailblazer

well i'm just board at work and decided to make an account here and come up with some ideas of what to do with my 2002 rwd trailblazer...

though this may seem like a pipe dream and could be costly but one can dream

i was looking around and got the idea about putting a goodwrench 7.4 ltr carbed re-manufactured crate engine in a trailblazer rwd. probably get 12mpg but be a lot of fun with its extra power

anyone got an idea of costs for this to be done... the engine is 3.4k
and i can do most of the work for the install so labor cost are not relevant

Interesting swap. Why go with the carbed reman engine? For 3.4k you could have a 6.0 and 4l80 complete with tuning and a few other things that would be in my opinion better than the 454.

yea a 6.0l with 4l80 would be a bit more affordable it seems... but how many 454 carbed TBs do you see out there. just thinkin of a way to be different haha.

Most likely never gonna do this swap cus id rather save for a 98-00 c5 for a summer car.

    Thnx for the reply zeake

Is there even room in the engine compartment for a BBC in a Trailblazer?

While the concept of this is kinda cool, you don't see people doing this for a reason.. It will not be very cost effective, you will have more money in it then it is worth.. A built 6.0 with a 80e or built 60e is the way to go IMO.. It will not only be cheaper to do, but you not ruining a new vehicle.. And IMO a built 6.0 in one of these will beat on a goodwrecnh BBC all day.. There would be alot of fabing to do also.. Don't get me wrong i love me old school stuff, but it isn't a very pratical thing to do in my eyes

I agree with john, and not only cause the front of our trucks are damn near identical. You're leaving a lot of things out of the equation. You're swap would be closer to 8k by the time it's all said in done. Now if money is no object, drop the bad mofo 572 in there and have a hell of a toy. I too like big block ole skool power. If money were no object the 572 would be my choice for the c10.Sick idea though! If u have the money to play with I say do it!

imo. if i was doing a big block swap i would do the 8.1L boat anchor that replaced the 454, but i had a lightly modded 8.1 in my avalanche 2500 and now i have a mostly stock supercharged avalanche 1500 with a 5.3 (same money in both trucks) and the 5.3 has more power and gets 3x the gas mileage under boost than the 8.1 did @ 55 mph. with the cruise control on. you have to look at the $/hp and you very rarely will get more bang for your buck from a big block. you might be different but wont be faster. make a 6.0 into a 408 stroker and put a turbo on it and be in the same $ range.

and ya it will beat a hemi.

I to agree w/being different and doing something out of the norm but if you don't have a lot of fabrication skill or knowledge of engines/cars stay away from it. When it comes time to ask questions like "how do I make this fit?" the only answer you'll most likely get is "a BFH!!!!"
If this is going to stay a street vehicle check your emission laws if any before starting. I hear most states are soon adopting new emission laws.
