    Traction Issues

    Hey guys, need some input.

My truck is having major traction issues. I did some suggested adjustments, tried a little stuff here and there.
It's greatly improved, but does anyone have some fine tuning suggestions while I'm at the track this friday?

The truck seems to pull a lot straighter than it used to, so it's improving there. The ass end squats like it's supposed to, could be more, but at least it's biting now. I'll find out at the track, but it feels about like a 1.75 or a 1.8 60', which isn't anywhere near the potential.

When setting up the suspension for launching, does that apply to highway runs? Reason I'm asking, it doesn't matter if I'm going 40mph or 100mph, the truck will literally smoke the tires and I'm then forced to let off.
I could get into it easier, but when the turbos come on, it's like a big shot, not a gradual increase. I know timing and boost control would help keep it under control, but I wanna keep the good surge of power it has now, but I'd like for it stick, not go up in smoke.

The truck has 11.5 x 29" et's. A four link and adjusted the best I can get it.
So, I'm looking for input from guys that have set them up.

The truck is pretty light in the rear, do you think some weight is needed back there? I really don't want to tub it out either, maybe later.

    no sway bar
    battery in back

i probably do need some work on track time, but the truck needs traction, i can't make the truck stick if it just isn't going to stick. i can launch it easier, but that doesn't help track times.
regardless of how hard i launch it, i just want it to stick better.

Relocate the weight you have. Do you have a stock or aftermarket fuel tank? You could put in a fuel tank behind your rear axle or relocate your batteries to the rear to better distribute weight. Best fix is bigger tires with less pressure. I ran a 68 el camino for 2 yrs that had the same probs. Puttin down solid 11's on 31x12.50 Hoosier Slicks on bead locks. That was the only way I could keep the power to the ground.

Maybe its time to get it scaled and see exactly where it is. Ill be at SAR Friday also, could lend some more advice and help with some settings. I know after Skeets left and he had it scaled the adjustments were only off by one hole. One on the top bar and one on the bottom.

scaling will help greatly in transfer. if majority of weight is up front especially with the twins then its never going to transfer as needed. you wont have enough weight over the rear.

you could try this if you have some around. Securely place bailas to the bed in different places to help with transfer and getting force over the rear tires

it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors, It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em..That's the difference

you dont want the truck to squat too much. mine actually seperates bed from the tires a little on launch (caltracs). i was dead hooking last weekend with zero spin. my 60' wasnt impressive though lol 1.71 or so but the dead hooking part was something new to me! the weekend before i was dead hooking 1.68. time for a larger converter. anyways, your making a ton more power than most of us so maybe things change. firming up the shocks to a really stiff setting and cranking over the traction bars has worked best for me so far. with the shocks set to medium and caltracs barely loaded (like calvert suggested) ends in a smoke show.

let jon tinker some. im sure he can get ya going. but all of the old school drag guys i hang out with say "girls squat".
