    Diesel Swap Question

I'm planning on swapping my 5.7 gas for a 6.2 diesel. My truck is an 89 and the engine came from an 88 or 89. The engines came stock in these trucks so I would imagine it won't be too horrid. What I'm trying to figure out is what exactly I will need to make it work. What I have so far is the complete engine and a working tranny (same as mine)as well as the wiring harness. I know I'll need to convert my brake booster to a hydrobooster, get a larger radiator, front springs, Fuel pump, and get a glo plug indicator. I feel like it can't be that easy, lol. If anyone knows of other things ill need please let me know. Thanks.

And by the way, selling my truck and buying a diesel is not an option.

You say you're gonna take out a 5.7 gas a put in a 6.2 of all things? The 6.5 is bad enough but the 6.2 is much worse and has no turbo. Please don't....or edit the post.

Ahh i see i forgot to mention that i want to slap a turbo on it later on down the road. My 5.7 is kinda beat, could use a new water pump, throttle body, a few pulleys and im sure im forgetting something.

Is the 6.2 really that bad? You really think i would be better off keeping the 5.7 and fixing the problems?

Don't do it! You would be better off with the 5.7 the that old diesel motor. If you want a diesel motor get a duramax.

Alright, looks like alot of people are straying me away from this. Thanks guys!

Only reason i was considering the 6.2 was because thats what was available to me (for free at least).

If you are wanting a diesel go with a cummins 4bt or the isuzu 4bdt. I did the diesel swap with my truck for a little while with the isuzu motor and an adapter from isuzudieselswapper.com. It was fun and different but all the weight over the front of the truck made it handle different. I also like the power of a v8 more for a "fun" truck than the diesel. So I sold it all and have been using the money to put into my v8 build.

When was the last time anyone saw a 6.2 that ran? In 1987 it was a popular swap to change one to a 350. A high school buddy of mine and his dad put a TPI in place of theirs in the Suburban and just think about how bad a TPI is by today's standards.

The 6.2s and 6.5s are the reason the term "diseasel" was coined.

i actually have a 89 1500 4wd with a 6.5 non turbo. was a 6.2. i use it as a tow truck and work truck. as soon as the motor takes a sh........ im going to do ls swap. dont use the 6.2 if u must have a diesel go with something diffrent like a 12v cummins or a 4bt cummins. u can make more power with the 4bt than u ever could with the 6.2.
