    4l80 swap ?s

Alright well today I found a 02 4l80 with 43k miles for $800, is this a good price. I think I am gonna go ahead and get it tommorow. I have a few ?s though about the swap. I printed off the instructions to give to my tranny guy and one thing he mentioned is what about the gear selector will mine bolt up to the 80e or is there some kind of modification needed? And also with the tranny only having 43k miles on it what up grades are recommended, keep in mine the founds are some what limited. I do plan on a shift for sure. What about the converter the 80e has the stock verter how will the truck run with it? And gears, I no the ratios are different in the 80e how will my 342s act with this tranny? thanx Nick

If you get a 10 inch converter or smaller it will be much better compared to the stock "Heavy" unit.

    use the same PRNDL switch.
the 80e does use a different cable bracket, so get it with the trans or buy one from the dealer.

the shiftkit alone will be all you need.

    good luck,

Oh ya, 99-03 or so, use a two connector switch, the 04+, use the new style one connector switch.

The 2002 80e is a great trans. I put a post up with everything I did to mine to build it very strong. Running a 408 with 225 verified RWHP nitrous bursts and no damage, 20k miles going strong with a Precision Industries Vigilante 10" 3500 stall. I killed so many 60e homebuilt and stock transmissions that I felt like a fighter pilot and needed dead transmission stickers on my side window. I did kill a used $200 100k mile 1 ton 80e but it was abused and overheated. The wiring inside the transmission was brittle when I took it apart.

This is my build documentation. http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/mecha...0e-update.html Not sure if it will help but I've not had any problems with the trans since building it.

Hey guys I got my tranny today and got the shift kit ordered. I am still wondering about the 342 gears. what would be a good gear ratio, I have a set of 373s in the garage. Is there a good reasonable priced verter out there for the 80e. cirlcle d wants 725 I think it was, funds are running a little low. Also the verter I have is up for sale. cirlce d tb3000 will post pics and price in sale section tonight. Thanks Nick
