where to get insurance for custom vehicle?

How do you guys get insurance on your vehicles that would be more then what it is stock? I obviously have a ton of $$ wrapped up into my truck and state farm told me they would only insure for the value of a 96 truck.

State farm really said that? I took pictures of everything that is on my truck and sent them receipts of it, and if anything happens it is insured.

yeah the problem is most places don't want to insure a 96 truck for 50k. if anything happens to it, wreck, theft, tornado, i want to get it replaced with what it will cost. Like if you have a stereo system that cost 2k and it gets stolen, they may cover it minus your deductible and depreciation. so you might get some back to replace it. But when the amount goes over the value of the vehicle they just total it and give you that. The actual value of the vehicle is what is hard to get a policy on. i don't think geico would be any different. It's like saying my house i just bought for 5000.00 i want to insure for 50,000.00. They won't do that, there are places that do insure custom vehicles though, i just have to find out where.

I have dealt with geico in the past, when some girl ran a stop sign and caused about 2,500.00 damage to my wife's car. the girl had Geico, we had state farm, geico was hell to deal with, never called back, offered us less then half of that amount, like 1,200.00 because their estimator said it was partially my wifes fault for not stopping, even though we had a police report saying it was no fault of hers. another geico person told us we needed to collect the money from the girl herself. it was just non stop bs dealing with them. but thank you for taking the time to look into it for me. i certainly appreciate that, i don't want to deal with geico though after past experiences.

i can get an endorsement for custom parts on my truck but that doesn't cover replacement cost, just what they estimate the value of it to be.

You need "Agreed Value" coverage from a company like Hagerty's or Lloyd's of London.

Try Grundy and Chubb insurance, too. Ask for Agreed-Value coverage. I needed that coverage for my 92 when it was stolen. My homeowner's insurance paid for the items that were in the truck, luckily.

    okay hopefully this makes sense....

for that much customization there is almost NO insurance company that will do that
what he needs to do is get with folks who have heavy customizations like that and see who they have because main carriers (geico, state farm, progressive, allstate) won't insure a vehicle of that kind.

Not only that - he is looking for the unattainable. ALL equipment depreciates and therefore even if he can find a company to insure the vehicle and customizations everything depreciates and so the insurance commissioners (who determine what an insurance company can do) won't allow someone to write a policy for say 50k and then 3 years later it's stolen ...the customer can't get that full 50k. that is why premiums decrease over time (if you have a good record) because the value of your vehicle decreases over time.

    Does that make sense?

As far as his prior history with geico. I can't speak on that claim itself but state farm must have agreed with the liability decision because if state farm didn't agree with that decision they could have sent geico to arbitration which is an independent panel who reviews the evidence. If that did not happen in his case then unfortunately both carriers agreed both drivers contributed to the accident and while it's not necessarily on the p/r doesn't mean a driver can't be held responsible. So it's not just GEICO it would also be state farm because if they did not arbitrate GEICO it's because they, too, felt his wife was partially at fault.....although that is all of course based on his limited information about the mva.
