Unhappy Well the manifold cross over broke

well i broke some thing else i developed a perty good exhaust leak after my last run at the track on friday. i thought it was just the bolts on the collector backed out but i was wrong. i was only running about 14#'s when this happened, but rick over at trick performance is going to fix it back for me. Iknew having them here locally would pay off and this is not the first time he has helped me out

    Thanx a bunch Rick

see thats where Mic had his kit from KB break and made a stink of saying it wasnt intended for big power. just shows the compeditor has same issues. except this is the stainless doing this.

its not the boost pressure that kills things. since not one vehicle measures the same as another with boost. boost is restriction so volume is more acturately is the deciding factor.

but what caused this is the pressure in the crossover called back pressure. things happen, things get brittle and too lean will cause it to get hot and cause issues. im sure truck runs fine just have a good bit of back pressure. find a back pressure gauge and have your crossover tested. also freeing up the restrictions in the exhaust downstream from turbo will also effect the pressure in the crossover pipe

i doubt pressure owuld cause it to break like that, i guess it could, idk

but it seems to me like there was just some stress on the joint and it got brittle and broke

the pressure in the crossover pipe is usually double what the manifold is seeing. its a 2-1 equation

so at that pressure any faglie point is going to show and the welds are the first thing to go

i still doubt pressure alone would cause a weld to break like that....

there had to be some sort of stress on the weld, or even just the harmonics or vibrations in the motor....

pressure along with heat. the heat in my cross is hot enough to melt the plastic wire loom that is about 8" away. its enough heat to boil my clutch fluid. pressure is heat. heat will age things fast. so now you have around 28 psi in crossove with temps of 1k degrees goign to have its toll on things

as for vibration...in Tricks defense they run a flex coupling which suppose to take the vibration and expansion out of the crossover

i dont run a crossover and have no issues
