    Rear leaf springs

O.K. people I have to replace my suspension because the guy who owned the truck before I did had it lowerd and didn't feel it was low enough so they heated up the coils and leafs to make it lower. Now it's all over the road, I thought it was shocks. I bought a new set of edelbrock ias shocks and it's still the same. I am ordering a set of rear springs from General Spring, and I am thinking of going from the 1/2 ton rate of 1425lbs to the 3/4 ton rate of 2025lbs. I would like some input as I don't want to regret my purchase. I currantly have a hard bed cover on the truck and I am sure it's helping the sag process. What do you think????? Thanks Mark

That is a big jump in spring rate! I would tone it down or just use 1/2 ton springs. It is going to ride harsh otherwise.

I was just thinking 2025lbs would be half the weight of your truck, and not on the half that carries most of the weight.

I dunno, the rear springs on my '83 C-10 are 1900#, and it rides just fine. I think my '06 1500 squats too far, too easily, compared to my '83.

If it is a longbed that makes a difference too!

    Talking Rear Suspension Update....

I bought new 1/2 ton rear leaf's and edelbrock ias shocks, and replaced everything this past Saturday. I have 4" drop shackels and perches. Took her to work today, and I am still having a bottoming out problem!!!!! This is becoming a pita...... I had a buddy tell me to get a set of air lift bags for the truck, and this would take care of the truck bottoming out. Will I still need to put on a rear sway bar?

The other thing the truck does is feel really sloppey side to side, and has a ton of wheel hop..... Will the air lift get rid of that or will I need the sway bar and caltracks????

    Thanks in advance Mark

did you trim your rear bump stops?
do you have the front sway bar with the correct end links? if the previuos person put shorter sway bar end links in your tie rods could be hitting the sway bar now thats its raised back up.

The bump stops are maybe 1 1/2 tall and not stock.

The truck is bottoming out in the rear, I am not having issues with the front of the truck.

I am only trying to figure out the rear at this point being it's the worst.
