    Pinion Yoke ?

How much play should I have with the wheels on the grd and with trans in neutral. Cause I can turn the driveshaft probaly 1/2 to 1 inch in both directions before it starts to move the truck.
It probaly has done this since the rebuild yrs back and might be the cause of my vibrations.

Rearend does not whine at all just got a good vibration in the driveline.

Probably normal. You're taking up slack in the trans and the axle.

Even does it with the driveshaft disconnected

So you have the driveshaft out and the trans in neutral....and you wanna know how quickly the truck will move....in neutral...?

    I'm confused.

IM ck'n the play in the rearend....seems like a lot of backlash maybe.
I just want to know how much should the pinion turn before it starts to move the wheels

I hope that cleared up some of the confusion before I get confused myself.

You have not only the backlash between the ring gear and the pinion gear but you have all the clearances in the locker that are taken up between the ring gear and the axle shafts...and there is clearance between the locker and the shafts. You need to check it against another truck with the same axle and same type locker...and that may not tell you anything. You'd have to do an inspection/detailed tear down measuring all the stuff at each step if you really wanna know.

the pinion gear should have some slop before it meshes with the ring gear. when i fully rebuilt my rear end it had a good bit of play with all brand new bearings. im not sure what your slop is coming from tho, if thats coming from the u-joint then you need to replace that u joint, but some slop is normal in the rear end, not the u joint.

and a locker would cause very minimal slop, your main area of slop is between the ring and pinion gear.

btw, this is why you should always brake stall it a little before romping on it becasue if you don't let the gears mesh it is alot harder on your rear end, its how i blew my 10 bolt up with ease. if you get the slop outa the gears first, its alot easier on everything.

i really hope you get this figured out bud because summer is coming and i have the same god damn problem and if i cant fix it quick im going to be BS... cuz it is really really really scary at 70+ feels like something is going to vibrate off the truck... makes the shifter vibrate my hand like crazy... it sucks because i really would like to be able to push it past 70.... im hoping its my pinion angle or a unbalanced drive shaft....

I with u on this one...I cant believe both our problems are at the same speed. Once I get to 80mph the vib smooths out. Weird I know!

Only thing original is rearend and the drop kit. I find it hard to believe the vib is comin from the rearend.

I just got a Belltech Flip Kit and will try it. Currently I have DJM and really dont like the adjustablity of the pinion angle.

It has to be pinion angle and it might have to be spot on since we have 4.56 gears and the driveshaft is spinning alot faster.

I have taken mine up to over 100mph with no problem but from a stand still wheel hop is bad.

yea that is wicked strange, because my truck never vibrated before the swap at any speed even with my drop kit. but i think with the combo of the 4:56's and an off pinion angle its making itself present now... i mean i went from 3:07's to 4:56's lol but it really bothers me... and i dont trust the feeling it makes.... it really gets me scared haha. i have a belltech myself and i have wheel hop issues too. so im hoping some caltracs will straighten that out. but i need to figure out whats causing all the vibrations or ill never be happy with the truck. ive had it to 100 + only 1 time and it was pretty insane vibrations... let me know your findings bud. if we could stop getting Fing snow storms up here id have my truck out tinkering on it. but its down back in my portable garage with about 3 feet of snow on the ground LOL at least my truck stays dry i guess 8P
