if you had a G80 in it, that is what blew and probably took the gears with it.

A G80 is the type of carrier that is found in most NBS trucks. They are prone to failure. Countless amounts of truck enthusiasts from VARIOUS different forums have been seeing these fail, especially behind more powerful than stock powertrains. Upgrade to a stronger carrier if you ever have to change out gears... unless you don't mind having to change it out whenever it goes KABOOM. I have a few friends with NBS trucks that have had them fail, and one or two (that I can think of) that replaced 'em before they went bye-bye.

As far as gears go, I'm no pro at gear installs, but just ensure that you have strong gears to hold the upgraded power and performance. Also have them adjusted to where the pinion makes even contact in the gear's grooves. If that's done within spec, you should be fine. I don't know of any special method for having a "tighter" or "looser" gear installation. Again... I'm no pro at that, but have never heard it put that way either.

Yep you could look like this. Carrier gears driveshaft cover yoke and joints all dead.

I agree with zeake. Find a different shop all together. A couple of friends of mine that had G80s look like the carrier pic that zeake posted. I'm guessing this guy told you with regards to installing the ring gear closer to the pinion vs far away. If he "knows" what he's doing, he knows how to install gears correctly, and it won't matter how you run your vehicle.
