Thread: New SS?

By now ya'll have probably heard about the SEMA Silverado with a 427(LS7) but thought that I'd throw in this form GMinsideNews:

Chevrolet Silverado: In the 2008 model year a new SS version of the Silverado will come out. It is said to look very aggressive and sport a 500+ HP Small Block V8. A two-mode hybrid Silverado will arrive in January 2008 as well. There is also speculation about GM adding a 7.5L V10 powertrain to the HD trucks to replace the 8.1L Big-Block V8.

I hope they know something we dont!!!

I may be the first to attempt a 7.5 rcsb conversion(from Cadillac)

GM is working on a 7.5L DOHC V12 powertrain that Caddy will likely use. There is also a Turbocharged version of the V12 in the works.

I HAVE HEARD THAT V10 IS STRONG AS A GIANT. I DONT KNOW IN FAST DEPT HOW IT DOES THOUGH. IT LOOKS LIKE AN LS1 BLOCK WITH 2 ADDED CYLINDERS. IF CADILLAC IS WORKING ON A V12 I WILL HAUL ASS. LOOK AT THE 4.6 NORTHSTAR. MY DAD HAD A 98 CADILLAC CONCOURS AND IT WOULD RUN AS JETRO SAYS "LIKE A RAPED APE" HE WOULD RUN COBRAS ON THE HGHWAY AND STICK WITH THEM FOR A LITTLE WHILE.

I heard a while back GM was testing a V10 but was having crank problem's. Couldn't get the balance right.

yes i do see the 6 speed making it into production for this truck simply because they will not have a truck with that type of power out unless it gets fairly good gas mileage. they could have gas mileage close to the 20MPG mark I think since the same engine with a 6speed(albeit manual) tranny is running 28MPG or so on the highway. i think a 2009 or 2010 year model (possibly 08 but doubt it) is possible. its going to depend alot on efficiency and i would look for a more limited approach instead of a mass approach like the sss has approached. im looking at gm's performance division and thinking they will probably become more like SVT was for Ford for so many years. notice the Equinox Sport is coming out as well, and they are going to be cutting the TrailBlazers out in the coming years so they will need to fill a void. I wouldnt be suprised to see a Tahoe SS as well, but that is purely my belief and has no basis as far as anything i have read.

well it might be good but anyone remember the red unabody SS demo they had with 500HP which became the current models....they always go over the top then reality sets in along with manufacturing costs/buyers market....anything most of us would like to see never makes it to the street...if it does it is very limited production i.e. two or three for someone rich guys collection

agreed. BUT it was a unibody as u stated and there was a ton of stuff that everyone knew wasnt going to make it into production(like the magnacharger it sported) GM actually uses everything that is in the 427 concept already on either the Z06 or the current truck. this isnt that far of a stretch compared to alot of the other concepts on the market.

I read that GM now has a stronger 4L70E trans which is in the new Escalade, And it will likely be faised out shortly by the six speed, because the 4L60 platform cann't be upgraded to handle any more power. So on the next power hike the 6 speed is likely to move in.

Either way the 6 speed trani will be nice when it comes to the trucks power band and the fuel economy.
