They must have changed the shift mechanism on the 03+ trucks or something. Mines an 01 and with bolt ons and a 100 shot I could hit the 2hi button after launching but it just blinks till I let out of it. Many others have had the same xperience, but I dont recall any of the newer trucks having this issue or atleast posting anything about it.

My 03 will not come out of 4wd untill I let off the gas. The button flashes also. I think the torque going to the front shaft keeps it from disengaugeing, correct?

Every thing is still spining till you come to a stop. I felt no difference in switching from 4 to 2 down the track. But in my head i thought it did something. The front hubs are still going to be locked till ya stop going at these speeds and i believe the the drive shaft is still turning. I do know that playing and launching in 4X4 accelerated the Dreadful T CASE CLUNK in my Z-71.

I found I can cut about 0.5 sec off my ET by launching in 4HI. I keep it in 4WD all the way through also. Mine is the old-fashioned kind with the mechanical shift lever on the floor (2003 but a cheap truck ) so I could shift into 2WD. But there is something about pulling gears apart while they are under load that makes me squeamish.
