10 seconds seems like too long a time for it to be a VATS problem.. In my experience they usually run for 2 seconds or less and then just shut down. However, you did not mention if you did any reprogramming of your PCM and if you have not dealt with the VATS issue, you need to. While you are getting your PCM reprogrammed, that would be the time to delete any emmision related items that may not be necessary for your swap (rear O2s, evap system, etc) and correct for your gear ratio in addition to any performance tuning you'd like to have done.
