I just got a 2003 Chevy 5.3L and want to build the engine for f/i. I read that you can go to the 5.7 piston size so I plan on going that route. What is the stock stroke and what can I stroke it to safely? I plan on adding a STS kit to it also since I have some in the garage collecting dust, lol. Who makes good strokers, cranks, rods, pistons, etc.?

Here are some pics of the project truck:

BTW, I was already told about the week tranny so a Level 5 is in order too. I don't want to go 80L with this project but maybe when I go to a 6.0 stroked to a 408 then I can.

stock stroke is 3.62. You can use a 4.0 stroke.
Most use the Eagle crank. Its priced right and works great. If you want to spend a little $$, then you can do Lunati, but it will be around $2000 for the crank.
We usually use Eagle cranks and rods, Wiseco pistons, Speed Pro Hellfire rings, ARP main studs and rod bolts.
If you are planning on spending the $$ now, I would just find a 6.0 core and do the 408 now. If you have the block, there is no difference in $$ from stroking a 5.3 and stroking a 6.0.

I was hoping to just use the stock crank but have it either heat treated or cryoed and have it offset ground. I was told I can bore it to a 5.7 piston so I want to do that to get better forged units to be able to handle about 15 lbs of boost.

I like the 400 SS logo you've got on there but it totally robs you of your sleeper advantage ! Good luck with your conversion - it'll be a screamer .

there are a LOT of trucks with that sticker in mexico is like the sport package interior, exterior, bed, and all of them have a 5.3 so no disadvantage there, its too common , and trust me it will be one of a kind stroked 5.7 and w/blower there in mexico cause nobody modify those at that point .

if you ever come to my town it will be nice to see it after the mods

    and good luck
