You got that right. Try this, scrap that, Do this, change that. yada, yada, yada

What's the diff between a resonator and cat? I assume the resonator isn't emissions legal like the cats?

Magnaflow has some new bullet style hi-flow cats. They are shorter too. I would look at those. My last truck I ran Random Technolgy cats. I don't know if those are still around or not.

Well, trying get a nice sounding exhaust for as little money as possible. I run the stock cat only on my truck with 3.5" tubing from the catback to the tail pipe. Sounds good, nice mellow rumble, is not loud and was cheap. Bear in mind though, my old truck (90 F250 EFI 460) has a huge and very restrictive cat compared to the late 90s up ->newer and smaller cats.

from everything I have read in dyno comparisons, the newer higher flowing cat designs even from the factory on the 96up GM trucks and cars are pretty good with little restriction. On a C6 vette taking the cats off only added like 8-10rwhp. On the other hand, they installed some high flow (high priced) cats and the HP was virtually unaffected and I believe they may have even gained like 2 rwtq compared to no cat at all!
