Hey Daniel. As far as motor oil, I would suggest going to AMSOIL's website and www.bestsynthetic.com and looking at some of the comparisons. I'm going to be putting in AMSOIL my next oil change after doing a bunch of reading. It's pretty convincing.

John Fuddle said it was best to avoid synthetic tranny fluid. He said you don't want things TOO slippery in there since the clutches and all have to grab. In fact he said him and a lot of tranny guys he talks to are adding a 1/2 quart of gear oil to their fluid to give it some extra grab. They've apparently been doing it for a while with good results.

As far as the rear axle, that's already synthetic according to the owners manual.

As far as gains, one of the truck magazines did a full synthetic conversion on an older Chevy truck (motor oil, tranny fluid, and axles) and showed a gain of 10 hp on the dyno. I would think most of that would come from the motor oil change.

Hmmm... Interesting. Thanks alot. Ill be doing my next oil change with sythetic. Ill read up on the brands to find the right one.

That's good info, but it looks suspicious to me that they checked AMSOIL against all the others EXCEPT Royal Purple and Red Line. What's up with that?

Any truth to that, or is it Amsoil propaganda? How can I trust Amsoil's bashing of the competition?

Ford'll tell ya all day long that Chevy sucks, and they may have some statistics to show you, but we know that's not true.

I don't know if they're really 'bashing the competition', but it's a valid concern that I had as well. I'll just quote the answer I found on their website:

"Keep in mind that if you visit the websites of these competitors, there is NO actual test data available at all. They have slick ads and great slogans, but will not show you how their oils perform compared to AMSOIL or any other competitor. Also remember, that if this information was not factually correct, these multi-billion dollar companies would instantly sue AMSOIL. But since it is proven factual information, they can't do anything about it, except hope you don't see it!"

And this isn't AMSOIL's test standars. They're based on ASTM tests:

ASTM: (American Society for Testing and Materials), founded in 1898, is a scientific and technical organization formed for the development of standards on characteristics and performance of materials and services. ASTM is the world's largest source of voluntary consensus standards. ASTM operates through a system of committees and subcommittees. Its committees function in prescribed field under regulations that ensure balanced representation among producers, users, general interest and consumer participants. ASTM standards govern the majority of testing performed on motor oils in North America.

And so there's no confusion, I'm not a dealer and don't plan to be. But I found what I feel is factual information and based my decision to use their product on that information. I'm also admittedly pretty anal and I research the crap out of stuff before deciding. If you're curious, go to the AMSOIL website or some of their dealers and decide for yourself. Personally, I see thier tests and that they excelled above every other oil tested (including Royal Purple and Red Line) and that's what I based my decision on. And like their website says, I don't see any competitors offering up similar tests or proof of their claims that "nothing outperforms" them. Where's the proof? AMSOIL offered it. No one else does.

Read the "Oil Bible", that guy does not work for the oil companies and has a lot of information.

I agree with Jethro. Read this guys page he has a ton of good info. I did after Jethro had posted it before and the link the guy has to AMSOIL info supported everything good I had read about them.

Got a link, Jeff? I had it bookmarked, but I cannot find it. I googled it, but like 3 "bibles" came up. Are you running Amsoil these days?
