    Dont know about you guys , but I have my computer set on auto update to keep my computer secure . I am runnin a version of XP that came with my computer when I purchaced it . Yesterday I receved a update that told me that the copy that came on my computer from HP IS COUNTERFIT . any one else had this problem I would like to know .

    You sure that's not some bogus trojan that ran a script, thus giving you the impression that it came from Microsoft? I'd scan for viruses with Symantec AV (& latest updates from SARC.com) before goin further.

    This is actually real. MS is sending out an update to find out who has genuine software and who doesn't. There are a lot of computers sold by Sam's, Wal-Mart and other places with counterfeit S/W loaded on them. You can go to Microsoft and actually validate your S/W and see if it's genuine or not. This is part of Microsofts way of knocking out pirated S/W. You can go to this link to see if your's is genuine or not. Microsoft
