On my 87 half ton i made 1/2" spacers to go under engine mount on frame side to clear the cross member.

i came across this cross member not to long ago. http://pacificfabrication.com/73-91-...mber-kits.html
i used dirty dingo mounts and positioned engine all the way forward. this put my 4l80e in correct position to hook up factory shift linkage, (the 4l80e will need the short selector shaft, the long selector shaft used in the newer vehicles is too long. they are easy to change out.)
The trans cross member bolted up in original location and i didn't have to modify any of the drive-shafts.
Awesome thank you that's exactly what I wanted to know. What drivetrain did your 87 have before the swap? How far forward did you end up going compared to stock? I'm going from 350/sm465/np208 to 6.0/4l80e/np241. I'm going to use the adaptor that currently between the 4l80e and np261. The new adaptor is shorter resulting in only about 1.5" overall length increase.
I went from a 350/700r4/208 to 6.0/4l80e/241
it was 2"-3". Doug Thorley headers fit great with engine all the way forward.20151021_133748.jpg
you will have to run efans also, no room for clutch fan.
