Woo Hoo! The remodel is done and the 5.7 comes out this weekend! I'll get some pictures on here of the progress. My plan is pull the old running gear, clean the hell out of the engine bay and underside, paint the frame with POR 15, Replace the fuel tank & all lines, run the harness, drop the new engine & 6l80 in, run the trans & oil cooler lines, plumb the cooling, tow it in for a new dual exhaust, tow it home & figure out why it won't start. Oh, I have to change the shift linkage to cable with an IdidIt kit and install a Dakota Digital cluster.

Tommorow I'll cut off the exhaust and drop the T-case & drive lines. I'm thinking of trying to pull the engine & trans as one unit? I have a cherry picker and an electric hoist in the garage, so I'm hoping I can work the duo up and over the radiator support. Any thoughts on that?

    Here's the promised pics:

Yeah! Good news. I'm using the 1998 fuel tank because the fuel sender unit is compatible with the late model computers. It has a vapor pressure sensor in it, but is the wrong one for the L94. I got the proper one today, GM # 13502903, and it fits right in to the hole for the 1998 sensor. Perfect. I wasn't' sure they if they kept the size the same for the Gen IV stuff. Thank God for GM always keeping damn near everything compatible.

Got the Holley AC bracket on. Very nice; looks factory. There is one issue. If you look at the idler pulley I circled in red, you can see it is not needed. If you use all of the Holley LS brackets, the belt comes up to the top of the AC compressor from the water pump; so it is needed in that case. However, if you're only using the Holley AC bracket and the rest of the brackets are GM, the belt routes from under the upper right idler pulley to the top of the AC. The circled pulley actually hurts you in this case. It put's the belt closer to being up in the way, it reduces contact with the AC pulley and it adds one more pulley that can fail.

I haven't decided for sure yet, but I think I'll cut off the boss that holds the red circled pulley.Holley Brakets (Custom).jpgPulley (Custom).jpgGM Brackets (Custom).jpg

Before you remove that pulley, double check the belt routing. Does Holley offer any information on the routing?

Got the heater hoses done. I used a stock 2012 return line and standard hose for the hot line. The stock return line has a 3/4" connection to the motor and a 5/8" connection to the heater core. Perfect. It also has a tee to the surge tank. (I'll be running the 2012 surge tank.) The hot line is 5/8" out of the motor and 3/4" into the core. I just used an adapter to mate the two.

I also got a bunch of minor details done, tons left to go! Still on track for the exhaust on Thursday.P1030688 (Custom).JPGP1030689 (Custom).JPGP1030690 (Custom).JPGP1030692 (Custom).JPGP1030693 (Custom).JPG

Wiring pic... Nothing running down by the exhaust now. The starter solenoid is re-routed around and in from the front.P1030694 (Custom).JPG

Dropped her off at Get Bent Exhaust in Portland today! Getting a true dual, stainless steel, mandrel bent, crossover pipe behind the transfer case, dual tailpipes out behind the passenger side rear wheels, Dynomax VT mufflers, front and rear O2 sensors. Hoping to have her back on the 11th. Here's the before pics...P1030722 (Custom).JPGP1030721 (Custom).JPGP1030723 (Custom).JPG

You live near Portland? I'm moving there, this time next year. Maybe we'll have to swap 4x4 swap stories lol. Good to hear you're almost done. Driving your truck after the swap will blow your mind as it did mine. I'm gonna post a video of it running and the complete swap procedures this weekend. Happy for ya man, it's well worth the cost and wait!!
