Would the use of that size cam necessitate installing a stall converter?

Opinions based on experience please...

(P.S. I'm getting the feeling that 220 is about the highest I should go.)

Sorry I have no exp with a tr224 without a stall, But I am doing a tr224 112 this weekend and he will be running with no stall for some time as it has not come in yet, fuddel 3000... I'll let you know of the drivablity without the stall after its in. (monday)

If you dont plan on buying a converter you may just want to go with a smaller cam jmo... Like I said before I ran a tr220 without a stall for about a month. It seemed fine to me untill I put the converter in. I didnt know what I was missing.

It will work though...

I see you decided on a cam but Im just updating my post about your original question. The TR224 112 kicks ass and is not to big without a stall.

Best time was 15.8 with bolt ons EC/SB

New times without stall...

R/T .500
60' 2.087
330' 5.862
1/8 8.992@78.89
1000' 11.729
1/4 14.065@95.89

Still feel drivabilty is piss poor but DAM this truck flies!! cant wait for the stall and drag radials to come in

Tyson, what other mods were on that truck? That is alot faster than I thought with no stall.

Yea I was alittle shocked when it was pulling hard on my truck with the a tr220 in it. Wooped my ass really

I was gonna say that the 224 was too big without a stall! For me it is. Your other mods must really work well together!
I am running a 224/224 114 with ,.578" lift. With my converter only flashing to 2600 the best 60' i could pull was 2.262 and a 1/4 of 15.03 @ 94.1 MPH. This at 5400 lbs race weight. I am 4x4 so I expect some DT loss but almost one second? WOW.

I think this cam needs at least 3000rpm stall if not 3200, on a "normal" engine.

This is a customers truck and not mine..

Im pretty much in the same boat as you but with a 220 and stall it has never been what it should. Ive seen minimal bolt ons gears and a tuning rival your numbers.. Somthing seems off..
