    1980 CAMARO lq4 swap/nitrous setup

Hello guys, I'm new here and my first time posting to a thread. Hopefully I'm welcome even though i drive a camaro.

Anyway I'm going to pick up a 2002 crew cab 2500 with a lq4 that has been rolled over and totalled out. I bought it for $1000 but have to give the tranny and transfer case back, still a good deal in my situation since they are of no use to me. I plan to swap the lq4 into my camaro. I have done quite a bit of research and think I got most things figured out. I have all the wiring diagrams and im going to make my own wiring harness. I have a 1980 camaro that I've given a pro street feel to and will make a toggle switch board for fuel pump, fans, ignition, push button start, and what not. I plan to use my turbo 350 with 2800 stall convertor, starshifter. 3.73 gears. detriot locker, 26in MT Drag radials. All of this was behind a 383. The 6.0 I will keep completely stock but will have longtube headers, 3 in exhaust, flowmaster 44's, and cut outs.

Well here is my questions. I live in montana where there is no emmision testing or regulations, so i don't need cats. What do i do about the down stream oxygen sensors. Does it just run in open loop or can the pcm just be reflashed to not worry about convertor efficiency. I know i have to get it flashed with m6 so ill be sending off the pcm anyway.

Next question is that i want to get setup to run nitrous when i have the money...then hopefully my pipe dream a turbo someday. I will probably go with a wet system intake tube fogger with TPS control. I plan on using the corvette filter and regulator for a returnless system. To be honest the whole fuel system is above my head right now and i should probably do some more reading. I just want to make sure what ever I do can at least supply enough fuel for a 150 shot.

Any help is welcome thanks, kurt

hey. welcome to the site. i am new to the FI scene so i cant answer too much. especially since im still in the middle of my first swap. but i did get my 6.0 up and running so ill chime in on what i think might steer you in the right direction. im in cali so i need all the emissions but from what ive read, most guys here have the rear o2 sensors tuned out, so just have your tuner do that and you should be good to go for that part of it.

as far as the fuel system goes, there are many trucks here running large fuel systems for their big setups. reading more will definately answer most of your questions but from what ive seen, stock lines can usually handle a 255 walbro pump just fine which is what im running and will be running once i get my turbo on. ive done a bit of research on the larger pumps and it seems when you use anything bigger than 255 like say a dual setup or a single 400 or larger, the stock lines will become a restriction so im pretty sure they will need to be upsized. also the older 6.0s like yours and mine (lq9) have #24ish injectors which arent big enough for much more than stock. i just purchased some #50ers from a member on here that came off 2010 6.0 which are just big enough to run my future 500hp turbo set up at 58psi. there are calculators out there to figure what size injector you will need which is how i picked mine. also from reading, it seems if you go with huge injectors, they have a hard time supplying small amounts of fuel for street drivng due to the time they are open and the amount of fuel they are dumping in due to their size. so they may not be so street friendly cruising around town.

you mentioned pro street so i assume the car will be mostly on the strip but thought id mentions the cruising thing since you might want to drive around town. anyway, as i said, i dont have any personal experience with high HP motors but ive been reading a ton of info trying to learn so i can get up there to play with the big dogs and thats the info that i have come across. hope that kinda helps you a lil bit but i def suggest your read into what i have mentioned to get a better idea of what i am trying to say. lol

good luck with the swap tho. and this might have been better posted in the performance upgrades section as the guys in there would know more about what your asking.

Thanks for the response. I wasn't very clear on the prostreet thing. Over a few years my craze for racing had slowly evolved m y car into a strip only car. But now I miss driving it around. I decided to go with an LS so I could drive it as a fun daily driver and slowly add some power to it and still keep it streetable. But I know once I get to driving it around again I'll feel the need for speed that's why I want to be ready for nitrous cause it probably won't be long before I put a system on it.
