Are all 5.3's the same?

This is a good place to find the resources, and no theyre not the same diferent intake different throttle body different heads and youd hafta change the reluctor wheels you can run up to a 2009 5.3 I believe, but anything over a 2005 youll hafta run your intake and throttle body. I think in 2010 gm switched to a 52 tooth reluctor you need the 24 tooth reluctor wheel. I may not be 100 percent correct someone will correct me if im wrong.

You can use any year 5.3. You have a gen 3 which is up to an 07. 07 and up (in the trucks) are gen 4. You can run that motor, you would have to relocate your knock sensor harness to the side of the block, buy the reluctor converter box and get a drive by cable throttle body. You can run the drive by wire throttle body, but you will need the pedal, tac module (I think that's what it's called) and the harness and throttle body.

i'd invest in the parts needed for a newer 5.3L, lower miles. Just getting harder to find a Gen3 engine with low miles.

you'll need a 4bolt to 3bolt throttle body adaptor, in addition you'll need to make a bracket for your throttle cable; not a big deal.
knock sensors relcated, like he said.
extend your cam sensor wiring and repin
get the 58x to 24x converter box from Ling.
probably a few small things i forgot, but easy stuff.

btw, i have a brand new 2013 avalanche 5.3L, 100 miles for sale (coming up).

You can run a newer motor with just the long block. You will need the converter box, cam sensor deal and the knock sensors relocated. No need to swap intakes or throttle bodies. Oh and you will need a good custom tune. It will make a little more power then stock, but you would benefit from swapping to the newer intake etc. It's just a little more simple this way.
