With that tall of a tank stack your rock work as tall as possble to accomidate more types of coral. If you do run the odyssea fixture at least change th bulbs to ATI. The stock bulbs are garbage and the ATI bulbs will give you better par numbers.

I run two odyssea metal halide pendants and one dimmable led pendent and I can grow any type of coral in a 21" deep tank.

This is going to be primarily a FOWLR tank. It'll have some corals, but the main focus is going to be on the fish. Definitely not looking to make an all out reef tank. I'd really love to find a deal on a good used light, but for the price of two Odyssea fixtures and new bulbs, I could buy a couple of nicer fixtures.

And believe it or not, I'm going to try to run it without a skimmer. Just solid biofiltration in my tank and live rock rubble and dsb refugium in my sump.

If you stay on top of weekly water changes running without a skimmer wont be a prob, i ran my 38 for over a year without one and it was fine.

ive tried doing the fish only thing, but it always turns into a reef tank, coral are
    addicting.

    what fish you thinking?

Flame Angelfish, Papuan Toby Puffer, a dwarf lionfish of some sort. Really would like an eel too. I'm just into the predators. I feel like they're more interesting and better looking.

This is awesome. Can't wait to see how you build this up, Justin. I have a 30 gal freshwater that I've maintained for the last five years and still have one of my first fish in there. Been getting the saltwater itch myself lately, so this caught my attention

Going to have the wife pick out some paneling for the stand today. Gonna go ahead and re-skin it completely. Probably going with solid black, but I was really hoping to go with red cedar panels with black trim... don't think she's going to let me.
