I have a 02 4.8 im using in my swap, I went to a very well known shop in my town to have the PCM tuned and vats removed. Well the HPtuners wouldnt tune it. He said i need a new one with my vin programmed into it. Has this happened to anyone?
I found a pcm on Ebay for $90 used and they prog your vin into it. Should i just get this and go back for the tune/vats removal?

whats the history of the computer? was it tuned before? it could be tuner locked, sounds like he couldnt right to it cause of this ?
you could probably ask in the for sale section and find one cheaper, just saying

The PCM was stock and never tuned. Ill check the part # of mine an see if yours will work. Thanks!

Unless the PCM was bad the VIN should not be an issue. Just read the PCM, make change and re-flash.
Is the PCM the same as harness and engine?
03 pcm's are different than 02!

It's a 02 engine with the org 02pcm and PSI harness in 95 truck. The truck I got it out of ran and mine will start then die from the vats. I saw the hp tuner screen that said it can not download tune. I'm not doubting the tuner at all. Just if I should get a new or eBay PCM?
