I think what you are describing is going to be much more of a pain than just splicing the 02 Engine harness in to the '96 truck's wiring.

Current Performance Wiring
For a 1996 truck, all you need to do is make the new engine a stand-alone install, wiring wise. Its pretty straight forward. You can easily hook the few wires from the stand-alone into the existing '96 power center(fuse block). All you need is the C-100 connectors pin-outs/wire colors. The C-100 connector is the black plastic port(group of wires) that exit the firewall in front of the driver, in the engine compartment. That, and the power center fuse/wire diagram thats in your trucks owners manual.
ur rigth the c100 connectors diagram is what im looking for unfortunatly i never got a owners manual for my truck, ill check alldata at my old work maybe it will have it thanks for all help and help in advance
i tried all this on my 97 swap, after alot of cussing and countless hours of staring at wiring diagrams i said it and bought one from Nelsons! lol

Not sure if I can help but I have a '94 wiring diagram schematics book and a '99 GM service manual. They were helpful for my 6.0 swap in my '93.
