4.8 to 5.3 swap with ecu

I was curious if I got the 5.3 engine, ECU and wire harness from a complete truck (2002) if I could put it all in my 2000 4.8L and run it off the stock 5.3 ECU? or would I have to mail the ECU out to get it retuned?

The 5.3 is all stock, I am just curious if there would be any conflicts with swapping the ECU from 4.8 to 5.3.

I searched for 4.8 to 5.3 ecu swap and it came up with nothing, and I also looked through the conversion threads ....... so clearly I missed it. I do know a custom tune would be best, but this 5.3 is coming with the original ECU.

From what I've read, you should be fine to use the 5.3 ecu, harness and engine in your truck. You will have to do the security relearn procedure after you install everything.

Once again more bad advice on the net....if all you have done is "read about" then you can't offer decent advice.

To swap a 2000 4.8 to a 2002 5.3 all you need is the engine, the 4.8 harness can be used on the 5.3. Keep your stock 4.8 computer to drive on shield you send a spare computer to be tuned for your truck. The 4.8 tune is fine to drive around for normal daily driving while your waiting for the 5.3 tune.

Stock 4.8 vs stock 5.3 is not a very big power difference and you may not even notice a gain in performance.

I've done more than just read. Point out to me what I said that is wrong or "bad advice". Maybe you should re-read what he wrote and what he was asking. He didn't ask if all he needed was the engine.
