    what oil to run?

    I am getting ready to put my engine in, its a 5.3. i have reworked the heads, new cam cam bearings, rods and lifters, almost ready to put it all back together and start it for the first time. what oil do you guys recommend to use? for break in as well as from now on.
    2000 Z71 scsb 6in lift, 35s, 4.10s, flowmaster, cold air intake
    1972 4x4 chevy shortbed 7in lift, 36s, cammed 5.3, built 65e...in progress

    Royal Purple-because it's expensive and pretty!



    Nah, just run dino oil. I use Castol 10w-40 because I always have and never had any problems with it.

    DUH this is a no brainer. Mobil 1 with mobil 1 filter. I denyed my first complimentary oil change on my 2012 because they wanted to put that dextron shit in my truck.

    Generic 5w-30 conventional oil with a zinc additive for the first two oil changes. Mobil 1 after that. I prefer wix for a filter.

    Valvoline VR1 racing oil, it has the additives that the engine needs for start up. Its a good oil to continue using also. The Rotella doesn't have any additives anymore as Luke stated.
