Thread: some notes from a beginner, change rings or change pistons?

    will buy paint,piston rings, well tray to paint it tomorow, looking at this color





    or should i paint the intire motor with heads covers and intake

    cleand up the pistons today , the piston rings need a change ? i dont know, im soaking them in gas , will clean check them tomorow hope they do,

    well , preping the block for paint last night , and painted the valve covers and coil bracket,

    tell me what you think of the color, it is primer then red , then jut a touch of orange

    I already have OBX headers on the 5.3 will reuse them of course

    some pics from yestrday, pan is on oil pump is in heads are on







    after we mounted the motor under the hood , and I was cleaning the intake manifold has a hole 2"x3"

    you can see it just behind the throttle on the drivers side

    Did you measure the clearance on the rods? Those mains are super tight..

    I used the wrong plasitgauge , i was supposed to use the GREEN not the red

    i JB welded the the intake manifold for now , will buy somthing better than stock , considering the stock bare manifold is for 258$

    ITS ALIVE
    started the truck yestrday ,it was in a coma for 6 weeks !!

    drives good just dies when slowing down under 12-15mph to turn or stop at a light.

    needs a retune

    as for any thing else i noticed some good torque gains on idle to 3000rpm with part throttle ,cant step on it just yet , breaking in the new bearings/piston rings

    every thing else is great

    will try to post some pics
