Good high flow muffler?

I have a 14" long 3" SI/SO Magnaflow on my truck. Does it flow less or more, and is it quieter or louder than one that is identical but longer (22"-24")?

Depending on the configuration of the new muffler it should flow the same, the larger case will definitely be quieter though.
