The budget 5.3 build that was posted above is your best friend for getting started in my opinion. I'd trade out the 220 cam for a little larger (228/230 area) and maybe add a 3200 stall. Will eat what little gas mileage you have up. But I owned a SSS. You dont have it for gas mileage anyway. Least once those mods are done you will enjoy the feeling of power

I'm doing a cam swap on an GEN IV 5.3 in a few weeks. DOD delete. We're going to go with the tried and true 224/228 on a 112. With your 6.0l, I'd go with a 3200 stall and a 228R for daily with a 3200-3600 stall.

your HP gains are going to be alot less than most peoples because of the AWD, also on the SS the E-fans from the 05 and up trucks will bolt right up to the core support/ radiator because the SS's came with the bigger radiators that were not standard on the regular trucks until 05. These fans are alot bigger and look alot better IMO since its a factory fit. Also on the exhaust id go with 1 7/8 primaries and when you go cam dont get a 3200 stall get at least a 3400. my little setup that i had on mine in high school and the year at wyotech was a custom cam from nelson (cant for the life of me remember the specs) 3200 stall and not enough exhaust lol. It ran ok but i always wished i had gone with some 1 7/8 primary headers and at least a 3400 stall if not a 3600. The setup did run ok just for comparison it ran down a joe gibbs truck one night and yes it was a supper charged one.
