The short version of the link below is.... by weight and board style. One length in a continuous bottom may perform completely different than the same length with a staged bottom. I've been looking at the Hyperlites and Liquid Forces.

I live on Lake Eufaula. It's the third largest man made lake it the world. I can hook up the boat and be in the water in less than 15 minutes. I always thought the same thing about skiing. Getting up was the hardest part. I haven't even been on a set of skis in 5 years though.

To me wakeboarding was super natural. You just sit back like your in a chair, don't fight your way up like on a slalom ski. The board choice shouldn't matter for the first little while. Once you start cutting hard and jumping you will begin to have a preference on sizes shape and to me the most important thing is how it sits in the water. I like a board that sits deep and tracks all the way through the wake. Others will prefer a lighter feel that sits higher and releases off the water quicker. I would suggest picking up something that is inexpensive and about the right size then upgrading to something nicer down the road when you start to get a feel for what you like. It's pretty hard to pick a terrible board IMO. I love wakeboarding its a dang good time and a lot more chill than skiing for me. I have more recently transitioned into wakesurfing as my body appreciates it.

We're buying one to share and I know my dad will probably never get into something more than what we get. I probably will. I'm more interested in getting a board that he can piddle around on that is fairly stable. I doubt he'll be doing any crazy cuts or anything.

Try hyperlites, they make quality boards for the price, and it should be fairly easy to learn behind a ski boat, I learned behind a bassboat lol
