Did the SSR 5.3 have the 90mm intake? or the Envoy? I'm not aware if they did or not. Do you know where the engine came from? Can you just ask the guy what's up with it? If it has DOD you can tell my checking the lifters. If it has VVT, you can tell just by looking at the front cam sensor. The VVT ones are spaced out quite a bit further from non VVT.
EDIT: VVT also has a phaser and two sensors on front, not just the one.

As you can see, the cover on the left has the phaser in the center and the sensor is spaced further out than the non VVT on the right.

According to Google, this is an SSR engine. Look at the oilpan. It is the same as the one you have.

If it is an LY6, it has DOD. If it did in fact come from an SSR, it would have the 78mm intake stock.

Thanks for the input, so it does not have vvt then. Is there any external way to determine if it have DOD? Or are the lines on the valley tray a dead give away?
I cannot ask the guy that bought it because he passed away last year.

I've heard that it's not too hard. Just a little more $ than a normal cam swap. This is just what I've heard. I have no first hand knowledge.
Also, what year did they make DBC TB's with DOD? That is new to me. I thought all the DOD motors came with DBW TB's.
Also, with that hole in the center of the oil pan, I'd put my money on it being from an Envoy Denali. Unless the SSR's were AWD, I think that "hole" is for the front shaft on the Envoy's and Trailblazers. Any thoughts on this theory?

DOD is deleted by simply pulling the heads, changing lifter trays, lifters, and the valley cover.

Do you have to delete it if your not going to use it? Or what is the reason to?
