Because they're motherfuckin broke that's why! When most people go into debt, they have to consolidate to get out of it...But not a huge corporation like GM...They just took OUR money to pay off THEIR debt. I realize that didn't happen over night, but after years and year of manufacturing literally the same product under a different name, it finally took its toll. But you are right. GM is "smart" and will keep GMC(or chevy) because they know there are enough stupid people that will continue to buy one instead of the other for personal reasons and if that particular brand didn't exist they may just go with ford or dodge or...I'm a GM fan to the death but, DAMN.

Ok to Ship a car over you are looking at shipping, a auto broker (to take care of paper work and delivery), Import fee, Tax, Tittle and license, and a inspection is basically all the cost. Shipping something from Australia wont be like when i had the mini shipped from the UK, that was cheap because 1 it didnt have to go through panama and 2 it is a small car and could fit in a small shipping container. I paid 1k to get it to Galveston and would have cost me 1500 to get it to Cali meaning it would have go through the Panama canal. Now bringing something in from Australia it will have to go through the Panama Canal unless you want to pick it up in cali but i wouldn't suggest driving it home id trailer it. That gets it to the states so lets just say it will cost an extra 1k to get it to Galveston so your looking at 2500$ then there is a 2.5% import fee/tax which has to be paid before you pick the car up along with some other port fee (cant remember what its called), This is where the broker comes in, they paid the import fee and port fee for me and took care of all the paper work, they sent me the necessary forms that i had to fill out and they did the rest. The day i went to pick the car up i stopped by the broker and paid for there services and they gave me the paper work i needed to pick the car up and also put me in contact with a escort because i dont have TWIC card. After you get the car then you have to have it inspected. If its a OBD II car or old like mine its easy because they just scan a obdII car and mine was just a safety inspection. After this you must have a theft forum filled out (i will have to look back for the forum number and name) but all i had to do was take it to Harris county sheriff auto theft precinct thingy up in spring off Jones road and he checked the vin number with the vin number on the UK title. Once that was done took all this to the tax office and said i bought this car and need it registered/Texas tittle. I paid for registration and tax on the car i think 5%? what ever normal car tax in Texas is. I got my plates immediately along with registration sticker and my title showed up 3 weeks latter. If you live in Harris county i HIGHLY suggest going to the down town tax office. There is never a wait over 5 minutes and the ladies there are way better at their job then the ones on Clay Road who have no idea which was is up or down let alone have to register a foreign car.... any way boom bada bing your done! If i had gone to the down town tax office first and knew about the theft forum i could have gotten the car, inspection, theft check, and registered in a day easy!

No body is happy they took our money, although to be fair it would just be wasted on something else if they haddent spent it on GM BUT i would have rather seen them go bankrupt, then they could have reformed and gotten rid of all the Unions and other non necessities. Also i dont see cutting GMC is really consolidating when they are rolling out of the same factory, not to mention there are differences in the GMC and Chevy line up not much but some and its still doesent change the fact that if GM gets rid of GMC they will lose customer to Ford and "Ram" since dodge doesn't make a truck anymore. They did make some good cuts like Hummer Saturn and maybe saab? I dont know if they are still around and i hope they arnt. I know in the states we have Chevy, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac. Thats really not bad seeing as Buick is a huge seller over seas and GMC truck sales are good at a little under 1/2 of how may Chevys are sold So why cut something that makes good money or do you just want to bail GM out again?
