Truck starts and idles. Sounds great. However, when you apply throttle, and hold at 2-3k it pops randomly and runs rough. Let off the gas and it will die. I assumed it was in the tune. Left Allen a message yesterday. A lot of parameters were changed during the swap so the tune was a shot in the dark via mail. Check engine light is on. Not running good enough to drive 2 hrs to Allens dyno. How should I go about getting it good enough to drive there? Tried to let a guy here (instructor for EFI University) go in w/ hp tuner software, but Allen has wisely locked his tune and we cant get into the PCM. Suggestions?

Brandon, check the codes and see why the SES light is on. I'm sure Allen will send you a tune overnight to get you on the road.
Does it seem like its running rich? That can cause the popping.

What I would do is let that guy with hptuners software do a log on your truck where the trouble area is and send that to Allen so he can see what he needs to change. He might be able to get it pretty close that way if it is in the tuning.

I wasn't there, but they said they couldn't even log due to the lockout.

Mine was the PCM didn't take the tune properly. I sent him my PCM that was originally in the truck, he flashed that one & sent it back. Voila, no more problems.

The first pcm you have from me should run the truck just fine. Nothing was extremely changed from the original engine. The first pcm will drive the truck, start, run fine, etc. If the second pcm is doing the same thing as the known good first one, then something is going on.
Just as an example, you can swap a 4.8L for a 6.0L and it will run ok. It won't pop and buck or anything like that, now it won't be optimized for the 6L, but it will run just fine. Same scenario with your setup.
The pcm will log just fine even though it's locked. The pcm can set codes, they can be read, cleared and the data can be scanned with a locked pcm. Even a crankshaft relearn is done with a bidirectional tool, it can even be performed on a lock pcm.
Check the fuel pressure, a truck will idle and start fine with very low pressure, but stutter with low pressure when the gas is pressed.
There's no problem with sending another pcm out, but if the first pcm is doing the same thing and that was a good one, something is going on.
Important question, did you have that second pcm in the truck driving it around when the trans blew, if so, that lets you know it's good.

We never left the shop before the trans blew. It was a TC vs. Flywheel problem. Engine builder put the spacer on the back of the crankshaft which put the TC too close to the flywheel. Damage was done before it was realized. Just need it to run right. WIll be checking all pressures/connections/plugs again tonight.
