I see the can can of worm I'm about to open... but oh well... I currently work for Geico. Have for about 4 years now. The performance mods part, correct, we won't insure them and/or drop a vehicle with them. That being said, most auto insurers are the same. Remember, if you have a local agent they make commission on what you pay so telling you your mods are covered means they keep your money. I would get in writing from ANY company that sc/turbo, cam, heads, anything performance that you mod is covered. In most cases it won't be and all you'll have as proof is "but he/she told me..." Not saying all won't, just most. In most cases you'll have to get custom insurance to cover it. Just don't want to see any of you guys get hosed if something happens to your ride.

State Farm actually has a very specific system for aftermarket stuff. You are just required to report the mods with receipts and photos. Its a really awesome deal.

Definitely good to know Geico won't cover/will drop for vehicle mods. My wife tried to get me to switch recently.

I simply told my adjuster what I had after I had my wreck. She said get her some prices and some pictures of them on the truck (no receipts even) and she'd take care of it, which she did.

All of the sudden I had a 1500$ nitrous kit on it.

Wow really you have an awesome adjuster to just let you tell her. Reminds me of that blue collar thing about getting his cd player stolen and he tells them the most expensive thing he can think of and says rolex.

She is pretty cool. She calls me time to time to see if I've added anything. When I got the new truck I had it insured for 5k in extras.

Ive got Farmers currently...Only issue I have ever had with them was when my 73 was totaled they only gave me $5000 for it....granted I only paid $3300 for it, but we had it appraised...before insuring it...for $12000 and after the accident they had there own appraisal done that came in at $10500. I was furious that we got half of what they had just told me it was worth and I had full comp and collision on it.

That was because it was old and considered a classic. You need special insurance for such....and it actually costs A LOT less than regular insurance and covers more. I know it doesn't help now.
