Well, I almost had to buy another motor? Running hard on the street and bumped the shifter into neutral. I watched the tach rev b/w 5500 and 6000. I thought I was going to spin a bearing or watch a piston fly out of the hood. Did I mention this truck has a turbo? Yeah, when I let off it was hitting 4 PSI on the down slope. I ran the motor later on and it seemed to run fine. I guess I just got lucky! I know not to do that any more.

Scary, nothing I hate more than a motor to free spin at 6000 rpms. I hate to say it, but I had an old Muuustang 67. I did the same thing with that motor on the track and was less fortunate. I had to rebuild. Did get a 13.5 out of it. 289 s are strong motors when built right. They rap up so fast, but not much on the top end. Anyway, the 6.0L is good as far as I can tell. Doesn't miss and idles smooth. I guess I was just lucky

This isn't very good, the engine should have blown so you'd have an excuse to build a built engine, LOL, jk, glad everything is ok!

To be honest, 6,000rpms isn't very high at all. When I had my 6.0L in my truck, I'd hit the limiter very ofter at 7,000rpms towards the end when the trans would randomly slip on the topend end, never missed a beat. The yellow truck that is always getting stuff, has a high shift point as well, it's all stock. Another HD just left here with 10psi sts we setup and it shifts at 6,000rpms, still running strong.
I bet these engines can take 7500rpms and not break. Ask vv8 hahahaha! I'd put money down on it that 8000rpms is possible, I don't know how many times, but at least once and live.

Anyone want to try it out LOL?

yea it's scarry as shit when the tires break loose or tranny slips and you bounce off the rev limiter thou

If I had blown it, I have my eye on a 6.0L out of an Esc. Caddy. A guy at work has one and is thinking of selling it to me. 345HP stock. It has less than 10,ooo mls on it. I bet Allen could really make this baby run. Maybe I'll put it in a old 69 Camaro or 60's stepside pickup. The possiblities are endless.

Thanks,
