thanks for the input, im thinkin about just gettin an ext caddy and puttin wheels on it like everyone else and callin it done. arent the gear ratios in the 80e different enough from the 60e's that i would also need 2 sets of gears?

The gears in the trans are different yes, but that wont effect your gears that are in the differentials. Only thing that will change is how long youre in each gear.

You sure about that? I only ask because my mom has a 3/4 ton Suburban with a 5.7 and 60e. Granted its a 98 and that could be the explaination.

I think the newer ones are what you're referring to, not the carbed older motors... before 99 everything had 60e I think.

But the 80e swap shouldn't be more work than sticking another 60e in, just a couple wires to move around and such... and even stock its going to be able to handle weight and power better than almost any 60e

Not really... The first gear is higher, which means less take off power and the overdrive is a lower ratio as well so the cruise RPM would be higher. Not enough either way to absolutely demand a gear change, but there is a difference.

I have heard of some LS guys running a 4a70e/AODe Ford transmission. handling enough power for a 9 second car. check the first post one here. http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=201352
