    96 LS swap help..

ok im almost ready to do the swap.. got all the part but a few.. but what i need to know is my truck has ABS that the PCM controls.. i have a stand alone harness and new PCM.. what do i need to do with the ABS? can i pull the old PCM out and all the wiring and just leave the stuff to run my gauges..?

also i plan to leave the stock 5speed in the truck NV3500 i think.. but what to run a aftermarket flywheel.. billet aluminum flywheel.. what year will work? i know the stock 99 4.8 will work but is there a aftermarket one thats the same as the 4.8? i called summit and the guy was lost... i called ram same thing...

if i go with the stock flywheel will my stock hyd throw out bearing work.. also with the stock 96 truck clutch work on the 4.8 flywheel?

sorry so long winded this are the few things thats holding me up...

It's not that we aren't trying to help. Most of us stay away from the stock 5 speed. There's only a handful that have done it. The 5 speed just isn't a performance tranny. You can actually leave most of the stock harness intact. Just use what you need. There is a whole thread dedicated to this swap that has all the wiring information in there. It's a sticky and very easy to find.

See the stickies pl4yboy mentioned, they will answer alot of your PCM questions. Also you could run both PCM's like several of the guys on here. I believe there is a thread on how to do that as well.

i got all the basic stuff down that in the stickies... i also have all the parts i need to do the swap... i have a stand alone wiring harness... i need to know what to do with the old wiring.. i no i need to keep the basic wiring stuff like oil, water, A/C, alt wiring and put it to the side... i really just need to know whatto do with rest of the wiring and if there is any other wires to keep..? ive read all i can find even see some videos on you tube... but no one goes into detail on the 96 to 98 trucks... like they do on the 88 to 95 trucks...

i would like to do away with the old PCM so theres not alot of crap under the hood... so can someone go in to details for me PLEASE!!!! thanks....

also i have been over 91blkstpsd build tread 100 times on the flywheel deal... i got one today new and that thing is BIG!!!! 40+ pounds.... ive PM him with no reply for help... so if someone can give me a part number to make sure i have the right one or i can cross over to make sure i have the right one this will help alot....

Like I said, the stickies pretty much cover everything as far as wiring.

    stroker,
I used a 1988 factory wiring diagram manual I purchased on ebay. Another good source of all the electrical circuits is AlldataDiy. Its hard to condense all the electrical info you are looking for into one thread, but just find the diagrams and work them one at a time until finished. There isn't a short cut, it's time consuming work that needs to be done right.
    Good luck

yead its becoming a PITA... lol the 88 to 95 wiring is diffrenet then the 96 to 98.. the PCM on 96 works the ABS on my truck the 95 down dont so there alot easier to work over the wiring..
