They told me that the main problem is that you are required to have reflectors on the back of your vehicle and that most of the reflectors are in the light housing, so once you paint over them the reflectors no longer function as they should, blah, blah, blah.

Every since I got pulled over twice (both times were during the middle of the day) I just started running with my parking lights on, it may be a coincidence but I haven't been pulled over again.

    Knocks on wood.
Thats why I havent tinted my 3rd brake light yet. That leaves the reflector and there is nothing they can do about the tinted tails.

Yeah that's a good idea also.

I told them that I thought my license plate was enough reflector.

Ive got a set of stock lower headlights for your truck if you wanted to try it out on those and keep your factory ones in stock condition.

I have tinted 03 tails and a tinted 3rd brake light, haven't had anybody hassle me about it yet, but I don't live in the Communist Republic of Texas either. No problems here in Alabama yet either.

I painted mine with clear coat mixed with black to the shade I wanted, them hit it with 2 coats of clear on top of that. Has held up excellent so far.

As far as the covers that go over, yeah I have little indents where the headlights shine, but it doesn't look bad at all, and can't be noticed unless you're RIGHT in front of them. Also provide satisfactory blackness and are removable if you run into trouble with the pigs
