I own a 2001 Tahoe Z71. I want to put a limited slip rear in and just read that the 2WD models came stock w/ a limit slip rear. Will a rear out of a 2WD model be an easy swap into my Z71? Also I have to take into consideration the gear ratio to match the front is this possible or will I need to change the gear ratio's.

i would think it would be a direct swap. look in the glove box of the donor truck, G 80 is the code for the locker, GT-4 is code for 3.73 gear ratio, GU-6 i think is for 3.42. are you shure you have a Z-71? it should be standard with a locking rear diff.

It's definately a Z71, and it definately has a 1 legger. Maybe it was swapped out before I purchased the vehicle. It only had 30,000 miles on it when I purchased it and nothing came up on carfax that would point toward a reason it would have been swapped.

Ya some of the Z's come peg leg. I was looking at buying one and it had 3.73 and peg leg. I was like no thanks. It should be a bolt in if the gears match the front. Ya GU-6 is a 3.42
