    97 4wd ls-1 swap usnig 0411 pcm

hey guys, first time poster but long time reader. i have a 97 silverado, and a ls1 that once took residence in my class 1 offroad buggy. it has a cam, arp rod bolts and heavier valve springs. I want to put this in my truck, but have some questions, when i pull the black box and engine out, i plan on using a factory harness, and the 0411, so the harness will connect to pcm, pcm will connect to the truck etc. what does the black box control exactly? besides the engine and trans? my abs module is junk and i plan to remove it when i do my sas. can i get the spreadsheet for a 97 to 0411.

can i get some input on my plan? am i missing somthing? pull the vortec and black box out, put in a 0411, ls1. what ls1 harness should i be looking for? i plan on using the ls-6 manifold on the engine currently. what about 02 sensors? or emissions?

im a chronic over thinker, sometimes i need someone to be a backboard that i can bounce stuff off of, anyone have some first time experience with anyone i can get converted harnesses and a pcm? nitrous did a build that i absolutely love. i have searched came up with a bunch of info but left me with some open ends.

I dont know if you have found what you are looking for or not but i did the same swap a few years ago. PM" lextech " on here he has a pinout spread sheet for the 0411 pcm to wire it to so it can be used to control the vortech 5.7. it took me a while to figure out how to do it but i have the 0411 pcm controling everything including all guages, abs, cruise control etc...
if you have anyquestions i will be happy to help out.

thanks for the reply, i think ive figured it out on my own, i plan on using the 0411 and the ls1, ls1 harness will already be pinned into the connectors where it needs to be, i will then un-pin my black box and pin whats left of the from the factory wiring into the 0411. i should be able to get my power, tcc, grounds, tach etc just by pulling the wring out of one(97) and into the other(0411) correct? I've come to this conclusion based on the fact that a 0411 swap with a vortec is possible, the factory wiring has everything i need, i can swap the wires over, and avoid having two computers and a bunch of spliced wiring. seems to be the easiest, and cleanest way to do it.

as far as the rest of the questions go, my brain was in a jumble that night and i've worked through it. ls1 harness will have its own 02 wiring and sensors already connected, so i can 86 mine. abs i decided to keep and use a dodge axle instead of a ford so i dont loose my abs hubs. all that will come out of my black box and into my 0411. anyone see any holes in my plan? ive never done it, just going off of what i know, and assume.

Little picture of said lsx. Custom grind cam, port and polish, arp bolts, heavier valve springs. Engine builder claimed 450-475 hp. It has a ls6 intake now. And obviously won't be using the 8 into 1 exhaust

i think you have the basic idea. you will need to use most of the wires that come out of the plug on the pass side fire wall under the overflow jug. that is water temp and oil press sender wires as well as power for the blower motor and signal for the PRND on the cluster.
you will also need most of the wires from the plug on the driver side fire wall under the brake booster. it is a big pain in the ass the first time. i am doing my 4th at the moment. what i do is pull all wires from both plugs out of the harness and mork their location as i un pin them from the obs pcm plugs then i refer to the spread sheet i got from lextech to tell me where they go in the 0411 pcm. one good thing is that the wire colors and circuit numbers are the same between the two harnesses.
also remember all grey wires are 5v refrence accept for th big gray wire powering the fuel pump. and the black with white stripe are ground ref wires (pcm gives these ground)

Awesome, thank you. I plan to use adapters to use my vortec sending units. Are you refering to just removal of the wiring through that area? Do I even need to mess with the wiring if I'm just swapping wires from one pcm to the other? And using the vortec sending units and adapters?

I'm sorry if I'm repeative, just like to get every bit of info I can, since no one around me has done this, and reading a generic sticky can only get you so far. First hand experience is the greatest imo.

the oil pressure sending unit plug is the same for both harnesses so i would not waste your money on the adapter(the ls motor does not need to know what the oil pressure is so the orig plug from your truck harness is the only one needed). as for the temp sender all i did was drill and tap the front of the waterpump and used the temp sender from my 98(you will have 2 temp senders 1 for the guage on the dash and the one in the front of the driver side head)

for the removal of the wires.....think of it like this. if there is a wire coming out of a plug on the fire wall it will need to be removed from the harness and reused when you intergrate the two harnesses together.

Perfect, I really appreciate your time. I'm excited to get started. I wasn't aware of the same sending unit plugs. So perfect, one less item. Do you think I even need to worry about having the harness modified for a 4l60, since I already have that wiring, I can just plug it into the pcm?

Some personal stuff came up finnacially, soon as i recover from that i will. Probably will end up selling the engine i have now to free up some funds. Just build another after.

the plan as of now is put a 0411 in place of my black box, then put the ls1 in and pin in the new ls1 harness, while un pinning the vortec stuff. leaving my OEM trans wiring alone thats already in the 0411, etc etc. im going to make a bracket that will keep my a/c compressor and lines, make a aluminum intake tube to untilize my vortec air box, make some aluminum coolant lines to avoid the goofy truck lines. fabrication side of it will be more than most builds, but im a metal fabricator by profession. After the ls1, its getting a pair of road armor bumpers and a SAS.

Im really excited to do it all, its killing me not being able to just tear into.
