What about a grand prix. Never driven one myself but heard even the v6's are fun and can get you over 30 mpg

My gf's sister drives a V6 one with a highway best of 27. However get a GT(higher comp motor) and do a top swap from a GTP pully down tune injecters big cone filter and headers and you are looking at a really fun low 20 mpg car that will run high 11's. Stupid fun I know.

Grand prix's are fun i have a GTP. if u go GM make sure the front hub's are good and not loose.common prob with them.imp ss are snappy for a 5.3 fwd car. maxima is a good choise too.

Tahoe seats 7-9 and will be cheaper and more effecient than a H2.
Back on topic the Maxima or altima would likely be my choice for the cheapest and most efficient.
