Excuse my ignorance, but what is the TM, and what does it do? I know gears and a tune is really what I need, but until I can come up with the money, I was just going to see if there's a cheap fix for now. It's just aggravating knowing the power potential of even a stock truck, but the computer won't allow it to spin tires or even do a full throttle take off. I know it's "tuned" that way from the factory so the yuppies and soccer moms don't kill themselves.

Also, what gears are most of you guys running? I've got 3.23's now. I'm not sure if I would tell a big enough difference with 3.73's, but don't really want to run 4.10's. I think I saw somewhere that a 3.90 gear is available. Anyone running a 3.90 gear?

One more question. Short of calling and bugging the crew at Nelson, what are my tune options from Nelson? I don't want to be limited to 93 octane fuel and I really just want my engine to run to it's potential and have a proper gear shift from the trans.

TM is torque management. Pulls timing to avoid hurting the trans and gives it that lame ass feel when you drive it. There are 2 spark tables in the PCM. High and low octane, the high octane is the standard but if knock is detected the PCM reverts to the low octane table. This essentially lets you have a "dual fuel" tune if you'd like.

Anyone with HPT or EFI Live can do it. Get in contact with a repuatable tuner and tell them you want torque management removed. Personally, with the 4l60e you have, I wouldn't remove it all. Remove 80% of it.

Are ther some good upgrades for my 4L60E? I know alot of you guys on here are upgrading to the 4L80E trans. Will the 60E hold up with some upgrades?

60e's are hit or miss. Some guys have pushed 500+ through them without issue... some fail in stock form repeatedly. You can have yours built. Look up performabuilt lvl 2 and build according to that spec sheet.

I made the switch from 323 to 373 and there was a huge difference out of the hole. Worth it big time if you do a lot of racing from a dead stop. But honestly if I could go back I woulda went 342 becuz I never run from a stop.. Always a 30 roll or so... 323 were better gas mileage slower from a stop but I loved them if I was going and running someone on the highway. Hope this helps. Also the 373 in the quarter gave me almost a whole second. So no doubt worth it for the track.

I'll keep that in mind about the gears. I mainly plan to keep this a "family" vehicle as I already have my 68 as my hot rod or my toy. I would just like to have it run better that the rest of the stockers out there.
