2002 F-Body LS1 huh? Nice. A good number of them came with the LS6 blocks, as they were trying to get rid of an overstock they had. Check your block serial number to find out. I set my LS1 in my '96, as far back, up against the firewall, as I could. I wanted to set the truck up for handling well, and it does. Especially after I lowered it and installed BellTech front & rear anti-sway bars, urethane bushings, etc, etc. The only negative to setting the engine that far back, was that the factory 4L60E dipstick tube could not fit between the engine & firewall. I cured that with a stainless braided Lokar brand tube/stick assembly. It fit perfect. The other thing was, that I had to shorten the driveshaft. No big deal really. Dropped it off at the local driveshaft shop, they shortened it, installed new cross-bearings(u-joints), balanced it, & painted it...I think it was a little over $100.00 or so. I had them shorten it 2 1/2". What harness you going with?
that's what i wanted to hear. so you used the trans that came with the LS1, & it lined up with the cross member?
handling isn't really a big issue for me. mine is bagged & my daily driver. being able to use my stock drive shaft will save me a lot of time doing the swap. i plan on pulling it this weekend so i can get rid of the donor car, a 95 mustang, & start gathering all my parts.
as far as the harness i'm not sure yet, i'm open to ALL suggestions.
guess i should start a build thread.
Good thread. I was also worried about the engine placement especially since I have two drive shafts to deal with. I'll definately be doin some crawlin with tape before i even start.
and I call myself a mechanic...
