With the fuel sending unit problems many see I would question whether the tank is maybe empty even the guage doesn't indicate it. If it is empty look on the bright side it will be easier to get the the tank out, although on a pick up I would lift the bed its quicker. Let us know what you find.

Once its pumping, usually keeps going until you shut it off.

Could be a cam/crank sensor as well...those will NORMALLY throw a code, try renting a obdII scanner from local autoparts store (if you have fuel and it still won't start)
i doubt that it's the fuel filter, because i change that regularly. I pressed the shrader valve in and NOTHING, absolutely nothing..... soooo fuel pump?? oh, and the only codes i had were for my upper O2s, but I've had those for a while now.

did you check the relay and fuse? also check if it has power going to the connector to the relay. a friend changed the fuel pump because it didnt have pressure, and still didnt have pressure after the new pump. turned out the pcm was bad , it didnt send power to the relay.

the fuse is good, and i can feel power getting to the relay and hear the relay.

Just for the sake of arguement, try it with the key on. Then try it again when the key has been off for 10 minutes. The rail could bleed off completely in the time frame you stated.
