i paid 750 for a long block lq4 out of a 2005 denali. it only had 20k miles on it. got the p/s bracket and pump, water pump, fan clutch, a/c bracket. coil packs, flywheel.
just look around. your wrecking yards will be the best place to look. or just check on here or even craigslist. 99-2000 6.0 are iron block/iron heads... 01 - 07 (classic) are iron block/aluminum heads, 07 newer are alu heads/ alu block (i think...)
depending on how you want to build the motor... iron block would be your best bet. with the 6.0 block, you can swap the ls3 heads and intake assembly onto it just by bolting it on.
short block with decent rotating assemblies go for 350 +, long blocks can be found from 500+ (just besure to figure out the year the motor is from or you might run into problems if you want to swap a 4l60 versus a 4l80....
cams are your friend!!!!!

oh... forgot to tell ya... the difference between lq4 and the lq9 are the pistons... the 4 has dished pistons and the 9 has flat tops.... other than that, they are identical... the lq4 has 9.4:1 compression and the lq9 has 10.0:1 compression.

Thanks... good info. I'm looking for a 6.0 now.
Here's my tentative plans. This will be my daily driver, sometimes in moderate traffic and an occasional 3 hr road trip to Houston. See any problems with these set ups?
Scenario 1:
6.0
243- stock with better springs though
LS6 intake
Texas Speed 224R cam (224/224 .581/.581 lift 114 lsa)
Pacesetter long tube headers
Magnaflow high performance cats
Flowmaster Super 44's
4L80E transmission
2400 or 2800 stall converter - not sure which one. need to keep drivability for the wife. lol.
3:73 gears
Scenario 2:
6.0
L92 heads - stock with better springs though
L76 or FAST 102 intake.
90mm Throttle Body
Texas Speed 224R cam (224/224 .581/.581 lift 114 lsa)
Pacesetter long tube headers
Magnaflow high performance cats
Flowmaster Super 44's
4L80E transmission
2400 or 2800 stall converter - not sure which one. need to keep drivability for the wife. lol.

i got my ls1 long block with 50k miles on it for 800...thew on a set of 243 heads ls6 intake and a cam. wanted a 6.0 but couldnt find a lq9. the 5.7 is nasty tho its not a bad investment if you decide to go that route..

I'd go with scenario one, and use the money you save on getting the 243's worked.

I like the look of option two better but, i would not run that cam with l92 heads (head design is totally different and you need a l92 specific cam), I personally wouldent run it with the 243's either. Also 2800 stall is way to small even for a daily i would highly suggest at least a 3200. They can be driven daily without any problems, my ss silverado had a bigger cam than the TS 224 and a 3200 stall and it was a really nice daily setup and there was still room for improvement to still be daylied. Also no need for the fast 102 intake for this mild of a build a l76 is plenty fine
