I drove a 2500 Heavy Duty Hemi crewcab 4x4 when they first came out...it is a nice truck but they are super heavy. Also that 5 speed auto some have suck up some serious power (internals and converter). 30% power loss seems about right. Hell a fully built trans saps close to that with a high stall converter...345-30% = ~248hp

I'd like to see someone pull out that motor and stick it on an engine dyno to see what it'll do.

Despite their portly demeanor (heavy, for you dumbasses) my truck is a heavy SOB also and probably lays down about as much rwhp. Maybe their drivers need to learn to manually shift that biznitch to get some shift extension from the gears.

Also I'd like to see one of these with a full exhuast (long tubes), intake, GOOD tune, and some stall (as well as a shift kit) to see what it'd do then. After that perhaps a cam and maybe an intercooled twin screw.

They have some serious potential. I'd bet once the aftermarket sets their bongs down, leaves Taco Bell, and finishes a few 24oz MGD cans they may come to their senses.

ya, most engines do have a lot of potential, i don't understand why some manufactures restrice their engines so much, i know they have to watch out for emissions, drivability, smoothness, etc.

but come on, they advertise that hemi like it's the shit, it is shit until you mod it, i'm sure, but someone buying a hemi truck wouldn't mind a slight rougher idle for the performance gains.

just like gm, they come out with an engine, then the following year it has 10more hp, then finally bt time it's at end of life, it has sometimes 15-20hp more, like they couldn't make that happen the first year. Hell, if they would just offer a better tune for those who know they have the right gas, there'd be a lot more hp available.

There are some crap Federal noise drive by guidelines, CAFE regulations, etc. All sorts of gayness out there. I bet there are rules for certain MPG requirments that each maker must meet per year too.

I mean come on, it'd be sooo easy to make a 5.3 w/ 300hp...a better factory tune. Why don't these trucks come standard witha 4.10:1 gears? Why can't I get a 4L80E in a 1/2 ton? Why no 9.5" rear end in a 1/2 ton?

I do b/c GM sucks...that's why we have the aftermarket.

I think it is all for fun! Isn't it alot more fun to mod your truck and make it faster than your buddies truck that is identical to yours. Isn't it more fun to have a truck that you built rather that GM. Most guys love to talk about their mods and how much better their truck is over stock. JMO.

Exactly, just like your truck...I bet GM never dreamed anyone would stuff an LS1 in it! lol.

Psst...are you going to get a lower gear set like a 3.55:1?

I need to get something lower. I was thinking 3.75s. I want to try a 3200 stall first I think just to see how much faster that makes it.

Mmmmm stall is nice! 3200pms + gears =

I'd bet you'll get better gas milage with lower gears also so your trucks RPMs are not soooo low on the freeway.
