    AWD I assume.

Even if the chain (or gears) would break the rear shaft would still turn. So, i would drop the shafts, keep teh tranny in Park (hoping that still works) and spin the rear output shaft on the tcase. If it spins freely then internal breakage on it. If it doesn't turn due to the truck in park, then it is in the tranny.

Same transmission problem happened to me little over a week ago, It was my pump. Try checking the ATF level with the truck not running, mark it on the dip stick then start the truck and check the level again. You can do that or check the port on the side of it for psi output. My moneys on the pump but may be just maybe the filter dislodged its self from the pump inlet and the pump isn’t getting any ATF due to lack of vacuum.

The pump doesn't activate in park right? I checked it in Park. Then put it in drive and the fluid did drop quite a bit on the dipstick. My first assumption was the front pump since no gears, but this makes me think the pump is working.

I’m 99.99% sure the pump works in park due to the fact that the TC drives the pump and the flex plate drives the TC
also was thinking, how old is the TC?
